Uniondale residents keep holiday spirit glowing with christmas lights

Uniondale residents are keeping their holiday spirit alive, even decades after one of the town’s most famous Christmas displays went dark.

Sam Klimczuk, a Uniondale resident known for his elaborate Christmas decorations, lived at 806 Jerusalem Ave. Each year, he transformed his home into a dazzling attraction, drawing crowds from across the area. After his death in 1994, the house was sold, and the display ended.

“People from all over Long Island would come to see it.” Maureen Herman wrote in a widely shared Facebook post on community group called Baldwin Inside”that included photos of the crowds gathering outside the home.

But even without Klimczuk’s lights, the community never stopped celebrating. Local residents have continued the tradition of decorating their homes for the holidays. While their displays may not match the original in scale, they reflect the same enduring festive spirit.

Today, lights brighten long stretches of Jerusalem Avenue and Uniondale Avenue. Many homeowners have turned to projected lighting, which mimics the effect of hundreds of traditional bulbs — creating the same warm holiday glow.
