Even though Christmas in Haiti is traditionally celebrated on Dec. 24, Solidarite Haitiano-Americaine de Long Island hosted its holiday gathering on Jan. 11, at Bernard Brown Park, to avoid overlapping with local fire department events, toy giveaways and church visits.

The event featured Haitian music, traditional foods, creating a joyful atmosphere that honored the spirit of the season.

Rose-Bienvil says their celebration is no different than the tradition Western culture. However, she remembers her parents not allowing her out or staying past her bedtime on Dec. 24. As she says most Haitian parents were strict.
