ZZ Top brought its Texas-sized rock sound to Eisenhower Park on Sept. 3, performing for Long Island fans as part of Nassau County’s Free Summer Concert Series.
The free concert, billed as “The Big One,” was originally scheduled for Sept. 1 but was postponed because of rain. Fans gathered near Parking Field No. 6 for the rescheduled late-summer show.
Formed in Houston in 1969, ZZ Top became known for blending electric blues and hard rock with humor, swagger and a distinctive visual style.
The band reached new heights with its 1983 album “Eliminator,” which included the hits “Gimme All Your Lovin’,” “Sharp Dressed Man” and “Legs.” Their playful music videos became fixtures on MTV and helped make the band’s long beards and sunglasses nearly as recognizable as its guitar riffs.
ZZ Top’s catalog also includes such rock-radio staples as “La Grange,” “Tush” and “Cheap Sunglasses.” The group was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.
Fans brought chairs and gathered with family and friends for the rescheduled outdoor concert, which turned a rain delay into another opportunity to enjoy a late-summer night of live music in East Meadow.
