A 19-year-old Astoria man was killed and his passenger was critically injured after the motorcycle they were riding crashed into a guide rail on the Wantagh State Parkway in Wantagh on Aug. 23, according to New York State Police.

Dario Marsalek was traveling northbound on a 2014 black Suzuki motorcycle at about 5:05 p.m. when he struck a guide rail just south of the Goose Neck Bridge, police said. Marsalek and his passenger were both ejected from the motorcycle.

Marsalek landed in the roadway, while the passenger came to rest in a grassy area along the right shoulder, according to police. Both were transported to a local hospital, where Marsalek was pronounced dead. The passenger remained in critical condition.

The crash occurred about a mile north of the Jones Beach water tower and prompted the closure of all northbound lanes of the parkway.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, police said.

The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating the crash. No cause has been released.
