A Levittown man was arrested after allegedly attempting to strike a deli employee and later displaying a knife outside the business, according to Nassau County police.
Officers responded to La Fonda Deli on Division Avenue at about 4 p.m. Sunday for a report of a man causing a disturbance. Police said Jawon Rainey, 29, entered the deli and was asked multiple times to leave.
Rainey allegedly became irate and attempted to strike an employee with his fist. Police said he then left the business and displayed a knife, causing employees and patrons to fear for their safety, before fleeing on foot.
Following an investigation, Rainey was located and arrested without incident, police said. Investigators also determined that he had previously been issued a trespass ban from the deli and was not permitted to enter the establishment.
Rainey is charged with second-degree burglary, second-degree menacing, attempted third-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child. He was scheduled to be arraigned Monday in First District Court in Hempstead.
