Levittown's #BookLove award lunches hosted by deputy superintendent

Sixth grade students at Levittown’s Wisdom Lane and Jonas E. Salk middle schools were recognized recently for their dedication to summer reading with special celebrations featuring lunch and meaningful conversations with Deputy Superintendent Beth Zirogiannis — affectionally referred to as “Dr. Z.’

Students who visited the Levittown Public Library throughout the summer were invited to enjoy a lunch with Dr. Z, where they gathered to celebrate their reading accomplishments and share their love of books.

During the #BookLove events, Dr. Z read aloud “This Way, Charlie” by Caron Levis. The story of an unlikely friendship between Charlie, a blind horse, and Jack, a goat, inspired thoughtful discussions about friendship, resilience, and finding one's own path.

Over pizza and Oreos, students recommended books they could not put down, reflected on what it means to "find your way," and shared advice they would give to their younger elementary school selves. The conversations highlighted the impact of reading in helping students learn more about themselves and the world around them.

To commemorate the occasion, every student received a gift bag to take home.

The #BookLove celebrations served as a rewarding conclusion to a summer of reading and reinforced the district's commitment to fostering literacy, curiosity and a lifelong love of learning. Through their participation in the Levittown Public Library's summer programs, students not only strengthened their reading skills but also discovered new stories, ideas and connections that will continue to inspire them throughout the school year.
