Crossroads Farm will bring the harvest from its fields to the dinner table Sept. 17 for its 16th annual Farm-to-Table Benefit Dinner, an evening of locally sourced food, live music and fundraising in support of the nonprofit farm.
The annual event, scheduled from 6 to 9:30 p.m., is the farm’s largest fundraiser of the year. Held in the heart of harvest season, the dinner gives the community a chance to gather around the table while getting a closer look at the work taking place at Crossroads Farm throughout the year.
This year’s dinner will feature several changes intended to make the event more accessible while putting local partnerships in the spotlight. Tickets are $150 and include cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, dinner and dessert. In previous years, tickets could cost between $250 and $400, making this year’s lower price a significant change.
“It’s our biggest fundraiser of the year,” farmer operations manager Michael D’Angelo said. “We really wanted to make it a price where everyone could afford to come down.”
Chef Antonio Bove of Uva Rossa Taverna in Malverne will cook in front of guests, preparing dishes with ingredients grown locally at Crossroads Farm. Pizza Passeggio will fire up fresh brick-oven pizzas during cocktail hour, incorporating produce and herbs grown on the farm.
Guests can expect a selection of wines, local craft beers and nonalcoholic beverages, along with live music throughout the evening. A self-guided tour will give attendees a chance to explore the farm and learn about its operations, including the role of its chickens. Dinner options will include salmon, steak and a vegetarian entrée, followed by coffee and gelato.
“We promote very authentic Southern Italian dishes,” Bove said. “We do our best to provide our customers with dishes that they probably cannot find around here.”
Organizers expect the lower ticket price and expanded programming to draw close to 200 attendees, compared with the 75 to 100 people who typically attend. The larger gathering is intended to create a lively atmosphere while giving more members of the community an opportunity to experience the farm.
“Everybody can enjoy, come get tickets,” he said. “Stay back and enjoy the beautiful night.”
Beyond what is served on the plate, the dinner is an opportunity for Crossroads Farm to share its broader mission. Guests will learn about the farm’s programs, partnerships and work throughout Malverne, Nassau County and Long Island.
As a nonprofit organization, Crossroads Farm relies heavily on community support to maintain its operations. Running a small organic farm in Nassau County requires significant funding, including support for work that may not directly generate revenue but benefits the surrounding community.
Raffle tickets and other fundraising activities will give guests additional opportunities to support the farm while enjoying the evening.
The Farm-to-Table Benefit Dinner is designed to celebrate another season at Crossroads Farm, bring community members together and generate support for its continued work. With local chefs, businesses and residents gathering around the table, the evening will showcase both the food grown at Crossroads Farm and the community connections that help keep it growing.
“Everyone’s support to keep this kind of gem in the community is paramount,” D’Angelo said. “Their support keeps the farm running and keeps the farm prosperous.”
