An Island Park man was arrested and charged with grand larceny and identity theft after allegedly obtaining approximately $80,000 in business financing using another man's identity in West Hempstead, Nassau County police said.
Mahmut Unver, 56, of Sheridan Place, was arrested following an investigation by the Nassau County Police Department's Electronics Squad Fraud and Forgery Section and the Nassau County District Attorney's Office's Major Financial Frauds Bureau.
According to detectives, a 43-year-old employee of Anatolia Restaurant, at 185 Hempstead Turnpike, learned in August 2025 that approximately $80,000 in business financing had been obtained in his name for the restaurant.
The employee told police he had never requested the financing and reported the incident, prompting an investigation.
Unver surrendered to detectives at the Eighth Precinct, where he was taken into custody.
He was charged with second-degree grand larceny and first-degree identity theft, both felonies, and was arraigned Oct. 29 in First District Court in Hempstead.
