A 48-year-old man was arrested after police said he assaulted an employee at a West Hempstead laundromat and prevented him from calling 911 early Aug. 25.
According to Nassau County police, Kevin Jemerson, who police said is “undomiciled,” entered Laundry Palace at 112 Hempstead Turnpike at about 1:07 a.m. Police said Jemerson approached a 41-year-old employee and struck him with his hands.
The employee retreated to an employee-only area to call 911, but Jemerson followed him, forcibly took his phone and threw it on the floor, preventing the employee from making the call, police said.
Jemerson then left the laundromat, according to police. Officers found him nearby and arrested him without incident.
Police said no injuries were reported.
Jemerson was charged with burglary, criminal mischief and harassment. The outcome of the arraignment was not immediately available.
