A BP gasoline station, at 1577 Merrick Road in Merrick, was robbed at gunpoint late Wednesday night, according to Nassau County police.
Officials said that a man carrying a knife entered the service station at about 10:48 p.m., threatened an employee with a gun and went behind the counter. The suspect emptied the register, taking an undetermined amount of cash, and exited the store in a black vehicle that was waiting for him outside.

A proposal to remodel a North Merrick Citgo as a 24-hour self-service gas station and convenience store is causing an uproar among residents, 15 of whom attended a joint meeting of the North and Central Merrick Civic Association and the North Bellmore Civic Association on Aug. 28 to voice their complaints to Kevin O’Brien, the attorney for the station’s owners.

It would be challenging to find a young performer more multi-dimensional than Kristen Murphy. The North Bellmore resident is already an accomplished dancer, singer and actress. She has won seven solo dance competitions up and down the East Coast, and has performed in front 500 people at the NYCB Theatre at Westbury, formerly known as the Westbury Music Fair.
