We finally made it to Woodstock last week — even though we were no longer wearing bell-bottomed jeans, paisley bandanas, or tie-dye T-shirts with bright yellow peace signs or smiley faces. We had a little more around the middle, a little sprinkling of silver among the gold, and we used our GPS system to get there — but we eventually “got ourselves back to the garden.”

A man stood up at the East Rockaway village board meeting on Monday night and beseeched everyone on the board to put the political mudslinging on hold. “Can’t this wait?” he asked, addressing Deputy Mayor Richard Meagher and trustees Irene Villacci, Bruno Romano and Fran Lenahan. “Maybe we can set up a debate later on, closer to the elections in March.”

John Bartlett's Pet adoption event in NYC

Menswear designer John Bartlett held another pet adoption event at his namesake store at Charles and 7th Ave. South on April 17. In conjunction with North Shore Animal League America, Bartlett hosted the event with hundreds of pet lovers stopping by to ooh and awww -- and to even give some of the cute dogs and cats new, loving homes.

'On Broadway' — on Long Island

The Island Park Theatre Group, in conjunction with the Island Park Union Free School Recreation Department, presented “On Broadway - A Musical Revue” last weekend. A cast of 70 locals actors, dancers and singers entertained the audience at the Lincoln Orens Middle School in Island Park - and the IPTG broke records with its ticket sales.

East Rockaway High School seniors take Rock Rivalry

The seniors at East Rockaway High School earned the coveted Cup last weekend during the school's 74th annual Rock Rivalry competition. Points were tallied and included Sports Night, Entrance, mural, backdrop, scriptwriting, choreography, band, lighting, sound, etc.
The seniors' score tied for one other class in the history of RR for having the most points in its 74-year history.
All of the classes did wonderfully, with entertaining and orginal skits and songs.
