East Rockaway resident Ed Corrado has announced his candidacy for trustee in the March 2011 village elections. He is seeking public office for the first time. “Reviewing all village personnel expenses will shine light on what’s really going on with our money,” said Corrado, who will represent the Pride Party. “I’m all for fiscal responsibility and good government — that’s why I join our next mayor, Fran Lenahan, in seeking to see where our hard-earned money is going.” more
A day after announcing his run for East Rockaway mayor, Trustee Francis T. Lenahan, Jr. raised more than $25,000 at a campaign fundraiser at Rocco’s Catering on Main Street last week. According to Lenahan, more than 250 people attended the two-hour event, which included local business owners, volunteer firemen, ex-chiefs, members of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, as well as a myriad of elected officials and supporters. more

But first, here is a breakdown on what McCarthy told the Herald about her issues and views on the road to trying to achieve re-election.Carolyn McCarthy, 66, is currently serving her 7th term in the U.S. Congress as a representative of 4th Congressional District. The district includes Baldwin, East Meadow, East Rockaway, Elmont, the Five Towns, Lynbrook, Floral Park, Franklin Square, Garden City, Hempstead, Malverne, Mineola, Carle Place, New Hyde Park, Oceanside, Rockville Centre, Roosevelt, Uniondale, Valley Stream, West Hempstead, and Westbury. The Freedom Party of East Rockaway held its first organizational meeting on Sept. 23 at the Commuter’s Club on Ocean Avenue in East Rockaway. The 19 attendees were welcomed by Richard Meagher, current deputy mayor of the village, and Village Trustee Irene Villacci. Meagher served as moderator for the evening and, after reviewing six different handouts, including proposed bylaws, he outlined four reasons for forming the Freedom Party of East Rockaway. more

John Mirando, East Rockaway’s village administrator for the past three years, has resigned. “It has been a pleasure working with the whole board and the wonderful village staff,” said Mirando, who lives in Rockville Centre. “I loved working with [late Mayor] Ed Sieban. “I really didn’t want to leave — I thought I would be here until I retired. It’s a wonderful community, my home away from home.” more
Village Trustee Francis T. Lenahan, Jr. has announced that he will run for mayor on the East Rockaway Village Pride Party line in March of next year. His platform, he said, is three-pronged: cutting taxpayer-funded, highly paid administrators; overseeing the responsible growth of the village; and implementing an overall village tax cut which will benefit every homeowner. more
