East Rockaway resident Ed Corrado has announced his candidacy for trustee in the March 2011 village elections. He is seeking public office for the first time.
“Reviewing all village personnel expenses will shine light on what’s really going on with our money,” said Corrado, who will represent the Pride Party. “I’m all for fiscal responsibility and good government — that’s why I join our next mayor, Fran Lenahan, in seeking to see where our hard-earned money is going.”

“The place was packed,” recalled O’Shaughnessy of the facility, squeezed between a window factory and a truck yard, which gives immigrant day laborers a safe place to wait for landscapers and contractors to pick them up for jobs.

The cannons at East Rockaway Village Hall got a facelift on Aug. 28 when a teen group from the Church of the Nazarene volunteered their time, effort, and service to paint them for the village. It was a morning of fun from 10 a.m. until noon that event director Bob Brockett will never forget.

The village of East Rockaway’s regular board meeting for July was anything but regular or ordinary as a lone, empty mayor’s chair sat in the center of the dais, a grim reminder to all those attending of the recent passing of its leader, Mayor Ed Sieban. The board members each took a turn reading their reports, yet the high-backed blue chair was the focal point of the evening.

Residents, friends and family members are grieving over the loss of East Rockaway Mayor Edward Sieban, who died unexpectedly on July 3 after a brief stay at Winthrop University Hospital. Sieban was 49. The cause of death was acute pancreatitis.
