A group of 26 students from Lynbrook High School’s Forensics and Legal Issues classes experienced the local judicial system up close and personal when they paid a visit to the Nassau County District Court. While they were there, they had the opportunity to meet a court officer and a judge who conducted a Q&A session dealing with the court system and jurisprudence, which generated an honest conversation about the realities of the same legal systems that they had been studying in class.

The Lynbrook Police Department has launched a bike patrol to bolster its presence in the community and advance its mission of eliminating crime and keeping residents safe. Police Officer Jaycee Indiviglio recently completed law enforcement bicycle patrol training at the National Bicycle Law Enforcement Academy (NBLEA), graduating number one in a class of 17 police officers.

There are five parks in East Rockaway -- Memorial, Oxbow, McNulty, White Cannon Point, and Minore — all of which close at dusk. The village board decided to change that because village parks have become a haven for underage drinking and loitering, officials said.
"It was prompted by vandalism and unnecessary violence with teens," Mayor Ed Sieban said. "The police department was having a hard time trying to clear out those areas."

The Lynbrook village board is looking to lease the two vacant stores underneath the Long Island Rail Road trestle on Atlantic Avenue -- the old Mur-lees and Picker Pharmacy -- from the Metropolitan Transit Authority, who currently owns the two parcels of land, and renovating them.
