To the Editor:
I agree with Bernard Kilkelly’s recent letter to the editor about Senator Al D’Amato’s column in the Herald, but only to an extent (“D’Amato got it wrong,” Aug. 2-8).
I, too, agree that the Herald should be a local newspaper devoted to local issues. However, if the paper is going to publish Randi Kreiss’s left-wing, nearly socialist rants each week, then the other side of the coin, as framed by Senator D’Amato, deserves to be heard. I’m surprised that Mr. Kilkelly only focused on D’Amato’s center-right view of the world, but is completely silent when it comes to Kreiss’s left wing extremism. Her views are as objectionable to me as Senator D’Amato’s seem to be to Mr. Kilkelly.
The Herald’s left-wing bias is well known. It pervades the reportage and editorials in each week’s edition. At least Senator D’Amato’s column provides the forgotten middle class with a champion.
