A thank-you

To the Editor:

I can’t thank our neighbors enough for the vote of confidence they gave me and my running mates, Stanley Lombardo and Ed Corrado, on Election Day. Your support will bring visible change to our village, and will also positively affect the lives of every resident.

Whatever side of the election you supported, now is the time for all of us to come together as one for the betterment of East Rockaway and its future. Job one for me is to make good on my pledges and enact the sensible and comprehensive plans discussed over the past few months of this campaign. I will cut $500,000 from our village budget, I will cut property taxes next year, and I will ensure that East Rockaway continues to provide essential services to the community.

And that’s just the first step.

We all are one village made up of neighbors —working families and seniors, blue-collar and white-collar workers — Catholics, Jews, Protestants, Episcopalians and many others.  But more importantly, many of us are friends. Elections elicit passions from all sides, but in the end, government must continue to work for the people. That’s exactly what I intend to make sure happens.

When the time came to certify the election’s results, Deputy Mayor Richard Meagher and I had an extremely gracious conversation. I thank him for his many years of service to the community, both on the school board and in Village Hall.

I look forward to working with my colleagues on the board to work on behalf of East Rockaway and its most precious commodity — its people.  Working together, we’ll be able to exceed expectations and accomplish our goals.

It was an honor to serve East Rockaway

To the Editor:

It is always a little sad to say goodbye, but there is also a sense of relief as if putting down a heavy burden.
