Local flooding reported in East Rockaway, Bay Park

Local flooding was reported before noon in parts of East Rockaway, here on Franklin Street.

As the snow tapered off and started to melt late Friday morning, flooding was reported in some areas of East Rockaway and Bay Park. One resident of Franklin Street said that the water appeared to be about 5 inches deep and getting deeper, and looked as if it was coming up from the sewers as well.

"It is all bay water coming from the drains into the streets due to a perigee moon, a 'super new moon,' and the passing storm," said resident Artie Raslich. "These conditions caused a very high tide."
