Memories of the East Point Inn

Remembering family, friends and fine dining in East Rockaway

Posted

The Herald recently ran a story about popular Chef Chris Neary, who got his start (for 30 years!) as a young man working at the East Point Inn in East Rockaway.
We received comments from people who miss the restaurant, and put a call out on Facebook for some more. These are some of their memories:

“My family loved the East Point Inn. My husband (he was my boyfriend back then) celebrated Valentine’s Day there! We took my parents there for their 30th wedding anniversary. Our wedding rehearsal dinner took place at the Inn, as well as the christening celebrations for my two eldest children — and so many more occasions. I wish it was still there.”

“It seems just like yesterday that we enjoyed dining at East Point Inn. My six-year-old, Steven, would say “My compliments to the chef!” I miss those days and the delicious food.”
Judi Klein

“I remember the East Point Inn very well. My folks had their wedding reception there in 1971, and we ate there often whenever we got back to East Rockaway. I also went to school with Chef Chris Neary.”
Dan N Deb Fischbein

“We celebrated many occasions at the East Point Inn over the years. The Colwells were friends with my family from Oceanside. My dad would always reserve the private room on the first floor because there were so many of us. I remember celebrating the excitement of the birth of our son, Joseph. He was the first grandson and my whole family was so happy. We celebrated many birthdays, anniversaries there, and always had a delicious meal no matter what day we came. We miss the East Point Inn but the memories of being there with family will last always.”

“Great restaurant! Blackened end cut, please!”
Chris Jones

“[It] just was a part of the landscape.”
Carol Ann Sustad-Renz

“The first and last time we went there for lunch was when we closed on our house in East Rockaway. We stopped by the East Point Inn for lunch on the way back from the closing. A few weeks later it was gone.”
