Q: What are you most proud of on your time on the board?
I think the hard work that the board has done. We put in so many hours it’s like a part-time job. One of the major accomplishments is that we finished the rec center [on James Street] which was sitting dormant. I’ve talked to hundreds of residents in the last month. We still have a lot of work to do; we are still getting things in place. Everything takes so long to do.
We’ve already purchased the new playground equipment for Memorial Park, and we’re accepting bids to have it installed.
I am proud of the board’s property maintenance law [where the village cleans up properties, when necessary, where absentee landlords may have left the homes in disrepair, or not maintained properly.] The bill for the work shows up on their tax bill.

Q: What are you looking forward to doing in the next term?
The whole village is very close to my heart. When we came in, there was a lot of excess in salaries ... we want to get the village to run more efficiently. We need to concentrate on the roads, and we’re going to be able to do a lot more with the equipment that we bought. We are going to do our very best without cutting services to the residents.

Q: Moving forward, what do you think needs to be paid attention to in East Rockaway? What work has to be done?
We’re doing our budget now. Every department is coming in to brief us on what’s going on. Just because something has been done one way for years, doesn’t mean it should stay that way.
