East Rockaway football team wins; King and queen named

Mike Castellano scored three touchdowns and Anthony Tesoriero added a pair of scores to lead East Rockaway to a 33-12 victory over North Shore on Homecoming Weekend at East Rockaway High. Castellano (13 carries for 134 yards) and Tesoriero each finished the regular season with 12 touchdowns. With the win, the Rocks earned the No. 3 seed in the Conference IV playoffs.

Both teams ran at will for much of the opening half, and it looked like the Vikings would hang around all day. But, after the Rocks’ defense stopped North Shore’s attempt to run out the clock, a 13-yard run by Castellano on the final play of the first half put the game out of reach at 27-6. Tesoriero finished with 103 yards, marking his third consecutive game with more that 100 yards rushing.

East Rockaway (6-2) will host Floral Park (5-3) on Saturday, November 6th at 3:00 pm in the quarterfinal round of the playoffs. The Rocks defeated the Knights 21-17 when the teams met during the regular season.
