The Sewanhaka Central High School District is searching for its next superintendent, and will be holding a meeting on Thursday, March 10, at 7:30 p.m., in the auditorium of the Sewanhaka High School, at 500 Tulip Ave. in Floral Park. The Sewanhaka Board of Education is asking the public to submit comments for the superintendent search by March 4, through a survey on the district's website, but new comments can still be brought to the March 10 meeting. more
Ronnie Cione, 72, has been the owner of Ronnie’s Hardware, at 187 Franklin Ave. in Franklin Square, for the past 31 years. Before Ronnie took the reigns in 1979, his father, Ronald R. Cione, owned the store. The store has been a well-known local business for the past 63 years, and is now planning to close its doors in April. more
An infectious, carefree smile and jovial attitude: that is how many Sewanhaka High School students will remember Naquan Bell, 21, and Bell's uncle, Brendon McRae, 24, who were both Sewanhaka students. Bell and McRae died in a car accident on Sunday, Feb. 13, along with friend Stanley Sagesse, 23, a Uniondale graduate and Hempstead resident. The three young men were heading home from a birthday gathering, when they struck a bridge embankment on the eastbound side of the Southern State Parkway. more

The Sewanhaka High School’s Cosmetology Department volunteered their time after school on Tuesday, Feb. 8, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., to raise money for cancer survivors and previvors. A total of $1,126 was raised by nearly 60 participating cosmetology students at Sewanhaka High School, located at 500 Tulip Ave. in Floral Park. Teachers Maryanne Contarino, Grace Jennings, Virginia Amadi and Ann DiMaria were also very involved. more

Franklin Square and Elmont saw their fair share of parade floats and gleeful teenagers last weekend, as three separate homecomings turned the area into one long parade. H. Frank Carey, Sewanhaka and North high schools held their Homecoming festivities on Saturday, filling the local streets with marching bands and parade floats, not to mention the most all-American of royalty, the Homecoming courts. more
