What was a quiet several months in Hempstead was shattered as two brothers were killed in the village in the morning on Aug. 12.

As it turns out, one sibling, Garfield Adamson, 50, fatally shot the other, David Adamson, 52, and then Garfield turned the gun on himself committing suicide, Nassau police said.

The fatal shootings happened at 10:21 a.m. at 16 Angevine Ave., officials said.

During the first six months of 2026, there was no recorded shootings in the village, according to the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, compared to four during the same time frame last year. Hempstead officials credited the milestone to proactive policing, community engagement and strategic deployment of officers.
