South Hempstead woman allegedly assaults another woman, Nassau police

A 27-year-old South Hempstead woman was arrested after Nassau County police said she injured another woman with a broken glass bottle and allegedly assaulted two officers during the ensuing arrest early Sunday.

Police responded to a disturbance on Willis Street in South Hempstead at about 4 a.m. on Aug. 30, according to according to the Nassau County Police Department. Resident Carolynne Alvarez was involved in a physical altercation with another 27-year-old woman, police said.

Alvarez allegedly tried to hit the woman with a broken glass bottle, hitting her finger and causing a minor cut and pain, according to police.

While officers were taking Alvarez into custody, police said she sprayed an unknown chemical substance into an officer’s face, causing facial and eye irritation.

She continued resisting and, while being escorted to an ambulance, kicked an officer in the knee, police said. The officers and Alvarez were taken to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Alvarez faces multiple charges, including assault, two counts of assault on a police officer, menacing, and obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest.

She was scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Monday.
