In 2022, Cassie Justice and her husband, Tom, a native of East Atlantic Beach, opened Sea City Vintage in Atlantic Beach to celebrate classic themes and retro styles in fashion, home goods, and artwork. By 2024, they expanded with a pop-up event, inviting local vintage vendors to Bright Eye Beer Co. on West Park Ave.
The following year, after a popular reception, the vintage market nearly doubled in size as it coordinated outdoor events at Kennedy Plaza and the boardwalk. On July 26, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the market returned to the plaza with more than 50 vendors.
“It's like a group sport, right? When people go vintage shopping, they're looking for multiple places to hit versus just one store to go to,” Cassie Justice explained. “So it gives a little more breadth and depth to what we're able to offer beyond our shop.”
The market has operated inside the Allegria Hotel during each of this season’s boardwalk fairs — the Chamber of Commerce Vendor Fair in June, the Arts & Crafts Festival earlier this month, as well as the upcoming Long Beach Historical Society boardwalk fair on Aug. 29.
The individual vendors maintain the vintage theme, only offering products that coincide with the classic aesthetic, with businesses coming from all around Long Island. “It's really hard for people to have shops,” Justice said. “Rent is very expensive, so we give people opportunities to pop up where they don't need a physical store location. Most people here couldn't have their own store, so it's a great way for us to build up our community “
