Throughout the long, at times agonizing health reform debate, conservatives and insurance-industry lobbyists have argued that we don’t need a public insurance plan to compete with private insurers. more
Let us go back to the day, the bright and beautiful September day, when all the promise of a new morning collapsed in on itself like the towers themselves. The images and sounds of the attack — the planes, the falling bodies, the imploding buildings, the gaping maw where New York’s greatest landmarks stood, the dust, the smell, the photos of loved ones taped to windows — are etched in our minds forever. more
Representative Peter King got it right. Nidal Hasan, the 39-year-old Army major who killed 13 soldiers at Ford Hood and left many more injured, is a devoted Muslim of Jordanian and Palestinian decent. Much to the surprise of most Americans, the Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize to President Obama. Their decision was based on Obama’s “extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.” They also noted his “vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons.” more
