The plane noise plaguing parts of Queens and Nassau counties was the focus of discussion last week at a citizen advocacy meeting to explain NextGen, a satellite GPS technology that the Federal Aviation Administration says has resulted in $1.6 billion in benefits to airlines and travelers by allowing planes to fly more frequently and closer together, take more direct routes and save time and fuel.

A federal judge last Friday sentenced Dave Denenberg, the former Nassau County legislator who pleaded guilty to cheating a law client out of $2.3 million and resigned from office earlier this year, to three months in jail and three months of house arrest.

It’s been over five months since the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced that Environmental Sciences Associates was awarded an $8 million contract to conduct a Federal Part 150 study to study aircraft noise patterns and evaluate the potential to reduce noise exposure in the vicinity of John F. Kennedy International and LaGuardia airports. That’s a fact.
