Updated: Dec. 12, 2:13 p.m. After more than 50 years of educating South Shore children, Sacred Heart School in North Merrick is expected to close in June next year. The announcement was made on Dec. 6 by the Diocese of Rockville Centre. Sacred Heart will be one of four Nassau County Catholic schools to close next year, including St. John Baptist de La Salle Regional School in Farmingdale, St. Catherine of Sienna School in Franklin Square and St. Ignatius Loyola School in Hicksville. more
Members of the Sacred Heart School Student Council held a Thanksgiving bake sale on Nov. 21 to raise money for the Sacred Heart Church Parish Outreach, which feeds families in need at Thanksgiving and throughout the year. more
The Sacred Heart Parish sixth-grade girls’ soccer team captured the Nassau County Catholic Youth Organization Championship for their grade level at Long Beach Middle School on Sunday, besting St. Aidan’s Parish of Williston Park 5-0 in the title game. more
The youngsters at Sacred Heart School in North Merrick sure didn’t seem scary when they were all decked out in their Halloween costumes on Monday, but they certainly were cute. The school held its annual parade first thing on Monday morning, and kids dressed in costumes ranging from Raggedy Ann to Batman. Indeed, a good time was had by all as the kids paraded around their school. more
The rain may have poured on Friday, Sept. 23, but that didn’t dampen the spirits of students at the Sacred Heart School in North Merrick during their annual back-to-school picnic. The fun was simply moved inside, and the children enjoyed musical chairs, Hula-Hoops, freeze dance and dinner. more

Purple Heart Pups, a fundraiser founded by Merrick resident Lisa Siano along with the Merrick Lions Club, joined the National Amputation Foundation, a Malverne-based nonprofit that aids amputee veterans, on May 7 for a 3K walk to raise funds for veterans. more
