The Halloween spirit abounds as we near that spooky date. There’s much to see and do in the area, before the candy-fest arrives next Saturday. Whether you want to step back in time to celebrate Halloween the way Long Islanders did over 120 years ago, stop by Cradle of Aviation museum for some “haunting” after hours, visit the grounds of Nassau County Museum of Art all dressed up in its Halloween finery, or find some scary thrills at one of the haunted houses in the area, there’s something for Halloween lovers of all ages.

Former Rockville Centre resident Linda Breitstone is set to be honored at Island Harvest’s 16th annual Taste of the Harvest celebration, on Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury. In what has become one of Long Island’s best known, and widely attended fundraisers, the “Taste of the Harvest” will raise money to help Island Harvest in its fight against hunger on Long Island.

It’s a story of a mischievous monkey who takes visitors on a journey that finds him creating havoc in the Heavenly Palace, meeting Buddha, and overcoming numerous challenges, all the while teaching about China’s rich culture. The magical Monkey King’s adventures will delight and intrigue families.

Island Park Mayor Jim Ruzicka was told two weeks ago by the Long Island Power Authority that the utility had decided not to purchase the Barrett Power Plant in Island Park. School Superintendent Dr. Rosemarie Bovino was also told of LIPA’s decision. But no one is happy about it.
