An Island Park man burned his wife’s hands in a deep fryer during a domestic dispute in their Oceanside restaurant, police said.

According to Nassau County Police, Xiuling Xiao, 39, was arguing with his 39-year-old wife while they were working at their Chinese restaurant in Oceanside last Sunday at 8:10 p.m. (Police have not identified the restaurant.)

During the argument, Xiao grabbed his wife by the hair and pushed her toward a deep fat fryer. Her hands were briefly immersed in the boiling oil, which resulted in second-degree burns.

Their two children, ages 14 and 12, were at the restaurant during the incident, police said.

Xiao was arrested and charged with first-degree assault, second-degree attempted assault and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. He was arraigned on Monday at First District Court in Hempstead. A temporary restraining order was issued against him, and he was being held on bail of $21,000 cash or $10,500 bond. His next court date was scheduled for Wednesday.

Xiao’s wife, whose name has not been released, was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Police said that the children were released to relatives.
