Oceanside student-athletes celebrate college signings

Oceanside High School hosted the first athletic college signing of the school year on Jan. 18. Seven students, representing soccer, softball, baseball, cross country and track and field committed to the colleges where they will continue their education and athletic careers. The students are Blake Goldstein, Sophie Nesturrick, Julia Valukis, Ella McCowen, Jacob Landry, Michael Regan, and Jason Kerber.

Blake Goldstein

Goldstein is a three-year varsity soccer player and one of this year’s team captains. She was a starting center midfielder and played every game this season with the most assists for the team this year. She earned All-County status this year and was named a Newsday top 100 player. Goldstein will continue to play soccer at LIU next fall.

Sophie Nesturrick

Nesturrick is a four four-year Varsity Softball player and a two-time all- county player who was named a 2023 Newsday top 100 Long Island player. Nesturrick is the Sailors captain as well as the top defensive catcher in Nassau County, who batted .302 last year with 17 RBIS. Nesturrick will continue her playing career as a catcher at Fordham University.

Julia Valukis

Valukis is a three-year varsity softball player who can play all three-outfield positions. She has been an overall leader during her career while also possessing one of the strongest arms on the team and batting .333 last year. Valukis will be taking her talents to Western Connecticut State University.

Ella McCowen

McCowen is a three-year member of the Girls varsity soccer team. She has contributed to playing various positions when needed and excelled at playing as defensive back and forward. McCowen will continue playing soccer next fall at Southern Wesleyan University.

Jacob Landry

Landry is a two-year member of the varsity baseball team. Landry plays first base and is a relief pitcher. Landry will be a big contributor for the Sailors in the spring. Landry will continue his academic and baseball career at Eastern University in the fall.

Michael Regan

Regan is a two-year member of the varsity baseball team. He is the first pitcher out of the bullpen and has proven reliable in big spots. Regan will have another big role for the sailors in spring. Regan will continue his academic and baseball career at New Paltz in the fall.

Jason Kerber

Kerber is a four-year varsity cross country and track and field athlete. Kerber was All-County in cross country all four years of his running career. He has been All-County in track and field for the 1600m, 3200m, and 4x800m relay. Kerber was All Long Island in the Distance Medley Relay. Kerber was All-State and Federation in Indoor 2023 for the Intersectional Medley relay.

Kerber was a Nike Indoor National Qualifier in the distance Medley Relay and sprint Medley Relay. Kerber broke the 5K course records for Bethpage State Park and Eisenhower Park and is now second all-time. He was ranked honorable mention on the Milesplit NY Cross Country All-State Team this past fall.

Kerber holds the cross-country 5K and 3200m school records. Kerber will compete in cross-country and track and field for Hofstra University in the Fall.
