Darrian Jackson drops her 1000th point on senior night

Darrian Jackson has officially etched her name into Uniondale history.

The five year varsity player and girl’s varsity basketball captain has done what many who play high school basketball set out to accomplish, while only a few can — score 1,000 points throughout their high school career.

But not only did Jackson score 1,000 points, she did so on her home court right here in Uniondale — in front of her friends, family, and teachers on her senior night Feb. 9.

She only had to play the first half to get the job done and seal the deal — not only scoring her 1000th point, but also securing the W by dropping 26 points and out-scoring the entire Westbury team, who had 16 as a team and lost by 44 points.

But Jackson seems more locked in about winning a Long Island championship than she does about obtaining the personal accolades.

“I like to win,” Jackson told the Herald after outsourcing Westbury by herself, “I just had to really just lock in and get my mentality right.”

Jackson, who only started playing organized basketball in fifth grade, has fully blossomed into a superstar for the Knights — being moved up to varsity in eighth grade and now averaging over 20 points per game as a senior and helping lead her team to a 14-win season, their best yet under Head Coach Nolan Dunkley.

Simply put — she is a walking, breathing, bucket.

Coach Dunkley says that Jackson serves as an inspiration to his younger athletes, without even knowing. “She doesn't even know that she's a role model to my young girls,” Dunkley said, “I constantly use her as an example, and tell them ‘this could be you in the future if you work hard and stay focused.’”

“I just want to work hard and help my team work hard so that we can get really far in the playoffs and make a name for Uniondale,” Jackson told the Herald.
