Servin' it up, Chef Rob's way

Chef Rob and his fajitas hit the Uniondale library

Posted

If you walked into the Uniondale public library this weekend and thought you smelled chicken fajitas cooking, you’re not crazy!

This past Saturday Chef Rob Scotts — who comes with a plethora of experience starting when he was 18, ranging from cooking for high-end Hamptons restaurants to being a private chef — came to Uniondale to share his knowledge of the culinary arts with teens in the area.

“I think it's great for them to learn, not just about sweet things but about different herbs. The onions, the peppers, the protein that went into it, and creating something totally different that they might not get a chance to make at home,” said Chef Rob. “I loved teaching them, they were a great class, they were eager to learn, and they had great questions,” he said about Saturday afternoon’s bunch.

The teens cooked up chicken fajita penne pasta skillets, a Chef Rob. Those who participated seemed to enjoy the cooking, but not as much as they enjoyed testing their finished products. “This was really fun, I cook at home sometimes too so I like cooking,” said Juan, an 8th grader at Lawrence Road middle school. “My favorite part was helping my friends who had no idea what they were doing,” he said jokingly amongst his peers.

Chef Rob has visited 96 different libraries across Long Island teaching every age group from adolescents to full-grown adults.

“You never know what someone’s situation is,” Chef Rob explained, “some people are here because they want to learn, while for some people this may be their only meal for the day.”
