2nd annual event

Posted

Uniondale Union Free School District's Smith Street School recently held its second annual Spring Hootenanny. Titled "A Gathering with Special Musical Performances," the band, orchestra and chorus scholars performed outside in Smith Street School's circular driveway. The event was open to families and friends of the performing scholars. The scholar-musicians performed from 9:15 am to 10:30 am.

The PTA supplied refreshments, and Uncle Ray's Ice Cream Truck parked next to the concert providing ice cream on the picture-perfect, warm spring day. The Uniondale Public Library also had an on-site table.

"The second annual Smith Street School Hootenanny was an absolute success," said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Monique Darrisaw-Akil. "Band, orchestra and chorus scholars showed off their command of their instruments and voice for their families and friends in spectacular fashion. We could not have asked for a better day with great weather, refreshments, ice cream, and outstanding performances. Our scholars did a wonderful job, and we are all very proud."
