Local man charged with 'manufacturing' child porn

Police arrested a West Hempstead man last week on charges he was making and emailing child pornography.

Detectives  showed up at 56-year-old Thomas Ball’s Linden Street home on Thursday, Jan. 15, around 8:15 a.m. and arrested him for promoting a sexual performance of a child.

The arrest was the result of an investigation by the Computer Crimes Section of the Crimes Against Property Squad, and the charges relate to crimes allegedly committed between June 16 and Sept. 16, 2010.

Using Optimum Online, Ball allegedly manufactured and distributed a known and identified child pornography image to numerous people through AOL mail, according to police.

Ball was charged was 13 counts of promoting a sexual performance of a child and 13 counts of possessing a sexual performance of a child. He was taken to a hospital upon arrest, suffering from “anxiety,” and arraigned bedside the following day.
