Memorial Day observed in West Hempstead

As is the annual tradition, West Hempstead marked Memorial Day on Monday with a community parade that stretched from St. Thomas the Apostle Church to Echo Park where a solemn ceremony remembering America’s war dead followed the parade.

The procession was led, as always, by veterans, including members of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Jewish War Veterans. Also taking part in the parade were the West Hempstead Fire Department, Daisies, Brownies, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Little Leaguers, as well as the West Hempstead Kiwanis Club, civic association and the Chamber of Commerce.
