March
Storm leaves path of destruction in Malverne and West Hempstead
As the Ides of March neared, a storm brewed in the Northeast, finally slamming Long Island March 13 and leaving severe property damage in its wake.
Winds of up to 75 mph knocked down power lines, plunging almost 1,080 homes in Malverne and West Hempstead into darkness. The sometimes hurricane-force winds
also uprooted hundreds of trees, which fell atop cars, fences, wires and houses.
