The VFW Post 2718 in Franklin Square got its 15 minutes of fame on Nov. 20, when it appeared on “How to with John Wilson.” The show centers around Queens resident John Wilson sharing life advice, while also covertly filming the lives of New Yorkers.
In last Friday’s episode, “How to Split a Check,” Wilson attended a New York Soccer Referee Association dinner at the VFW hall last December, figuring referees would know the fairest way to split a check. But Wilson soon learned that the referees may not be as fair as he expected. They packed up large quantities of food from the buffet to take home, made claims of fraud when an official won the television from the raffle and someone even stole a gold-plated whistle. “I guess I was wrong in assuming the refs would be less flawed than the rest of us,” he said.
“How to with John Wilson” airs Fridays at 11 p.m., and is also available on HBO Max.
