The West Hempstead Community Support Association honored West Hempstead High School senior Hannah Walz with this year’s community service award on June 4. Group members, equipped with masks, visited Walz and her mother, Theresa, at her home to award her a $500 scholarship.
“This was such a great surprise . . . I’m just speechless,” said Walz, who will attend Molloy College to study psychology this fall.
WHCSA President Maureen Greenberg said Walz’s involvement with groups and organizations such as the West Hempstead Public Library and the TOPSoccer program made her stand out as this year’s honoree.
