W.H. junior semifinalist in science fair

    An 11th grader at West Hempstead High School, Michele Chipetine, second from left, was selected to compete as a semifinalist in the final round of the Long Island Science and Engineering Fair that will be held on March 22 at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury.
    Her project, titled "Environmentally Conscientious Method of Using Apis Mellifera Wax and Copernicia Cerifera Wax to Create Biodegradable Polystyrene," was entered in the fair, which is one of 400 worldwide regional INTEL International Science and Engineering Fairs. It is one of the largest and most competitive regional fairs worldwide with more than 600 students from more than 60 Long Island schools.
    Competing with Chipetine during the first round were Peter Paluch, third from left, Ariel Jacobs and Natasha Vaduthala. They were joined by science Director Tobias Daempfle.
