The West Hempstead Lions Club held a pot luck dinner on May 5 in celebration of its participation in the Lions International Peace Poster Contest.
During the dinner, Lions Club members honored the West Hempstead Middle School students who participated in the contest, Xavier Roberts, Morgan Cinnamo and Elizabeth Egey. Xavier's poster won first place in the state competition.
The theme of this year's poster contest was "Vision of Peace." The contest, which is held annually, encourages young people to artistically express their visions of peace and in doing so promotes the arts.
Twenty-four international finalists are selected each year, representing the world of more than 350,000 participants worldwide. Posters are shared globally through the Internet, media and exhibits around the world.
