Eight candidates running for four seats in LVSD

Voters in the Locust Valley Central School District will have to make the choice between eight candidates running for four seats when they go to the polls on May 16, with one seat a one-year term.  People will also decide on the district’s proposed budget of $93,921,635, as well as two propositions.

One proposition is asking residents to let the district transfer $2.5 million to the capital fund to address capital projects, such as renovating the middle and high school girls’ locker room. The second is for the establishment of a capital reserve fund. Neither proposition will cost taxpayers.

During Meet the Candidates all the candidates concurred that the most important responsibility the board faced was to hire and build a strong relationship with a new superintendent. The district has seen several superintendents come and go over the last five years, and parents expressed disappointment with the recent departure of Kenneth Graham.

Candidate Mark Eisenberg  said the current board should wait to choose a new superintendent until after the election. He said in his closing statements, “The board must have the same goals and ideology as the superintendent.”

The vote will be at the Ann MacArthur Primary School, 100 Ryefield Rd., Locust Valley, on May 16, from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
