Keeping Inwood and Route 878 clean is a matter of community pride. Congratulations to Pete Sobol, Jimmy Vilardi, George Pappas and their team of Inwood Civic Association volunteers for stepping up and making a difference for the Inwood community (“Keeping Inwood Clean,” June 5-11).

Serving breakfasts nets Community Chest goal

Five Towns Community Chest’s Youth Board partnered with the staff of Applebee’s to serve 140 meals of pancakes and scrambled eggs to local families and raise the stated goal of $1,000 on May 17.

The Center for Adult Life Enrichment, or CALE, as it is known today, will celebrate it 65th anniversary with a gala luncheon at the Seawane Club in Hewlett Harbor on May 7.

Fun and charity at Hoops for Community

The Court Jesters, a comedic basketball-playing troupe entertained the crowd, 16 community-minded individuals made up the Five Towns Dunkers, who opposed the Jesters in a game, and a young man showed his charitable ways at the Hoops for Community event held by Five Towns Community Chest and held at HAFTR on March 8.

Residents, community leaders, and elected officials flocked to Five Towns Community Chest’s annual public meeting at the Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library on Monday, as the Woodmere-based civic organization marked a year of accomplishments, and swore in new members.

On Tuesday, Feb. 4 from 9:45 to 11:30 a.m. and Thursday, Feb. 6 from 9:45 to 11:30 a.m. and 5:30 to 7 p.m., the Hewlett-Woodmere School District will hold registration for prekindergarten programs at the Franklin Early Childhood Center (FECC) at 180 Henrietta Place in Hewlett.

At its fourth annual Neighbors in Need concert at the Woodmere Club on Nov. 21, Woodmere-based Five Towns Community Chest raised money to assist families in need and honored the volunteer efforts of Craig and Elisha Spatz and the work of the Woodmere Club Charitable Foundation headed by Adam Russell.

After Hurricane Sandy devastated the community last October, the Woodmere-based Five Towns Community Chest decided to cancel their Neighbors in Need fundraiser concert, scheduled for Nov. 15, 2012, and give the proceeds directly to storm victims.

Running to support Five Towns neighbors

In the first year of the Southwest Nassau Run Series, the Five Towns Community Chest held its third annual 5K Run/Walk on Oct. 20 that wound its way around the villages of Hewlett Harbor and Hewlett Neck, starting and ending at the high school.
